Clothing is one of the most intimate outward expressions of ourselves. We dress with a variety of goals ranging from the utilitarian to the whimsical. For the maker, that process starts before ever touching a finished garment. From choosing a garment style and selecting fabric to holding a finished project, sewing our own clothing lets us refine how we present ourselves to the world.
I’m a longtime crafter who started sewing garments for myself in high school. My mother was invaluable at that time helping me with basic techniques. Once on my own, the mid 2000s internet showed me a wealth of information from improving my fitting skills to fabric unavailable locally. The fabric retail landscape has declined since, so I have decided to become the change I want to see.
